America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders season 2 brought viewers directly back into the audition and training camp process, but with the focus mostly on the candidates for the season, some are curious about how the full audition process works. Becoming a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader is a massive achievement, especially for those who have been dreaming of dancing with the best of the best in NFL cheerleading, but the process to getting there can be tough. While the audition process is something familiar enough to fans of the show or team, to those on the outside, it's a surprisingly long process.
Auditioning to become a part of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is something that many of the current DCC team members still find nerve-wracking, even if they've done so several years in a row. Throughout the first season of America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, there was a bit more information on the audition process, the training camp phase, and the intensity of the season itself, but the second season focused a lot more on the cheerleaders themselves. Bringing their personal stories into the mix, there was a ton of information packed into the season, pushing the audition process to the side.
The Initial Round Of Auditions Is Held Online
The DCC Auditions Shifted To An Online Model
Although this hasn't been the way auditions have been in the past, in the last few years, auditions for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have started with online video submissions. With thousands of performers wanting to be part of the DCC team, it's easiest for Coach Kelli Finglass and Choreographer Judy Trammell to handle the auditions with videos, flagging those that they're interested in seeing continue on to the next round and letting the rest go. While there are still thousands of videos to go through, having the initial auditions online streamlines the process and allows things to move more quickly.

The audition process starts with online video submissions for new recruits, who make it through to a final solo round along with all of the veterans returning to the DCC stage for another chance at making it onto the team. While veterans are typically expected to be able to make it back onto the team, there's no guarantee that they'll continue on as DCCs from one season to the next. Veterans have to perform in the solo showcase phase of the audition process, just like the rookie candidates coming into the mix. The solo showcase is featured on America's Sweethearts.

In the solo showcase, rookie and veterans are all asked to prepare a performance for Kelli, Judy, and a group of judges that the organization chooses. Always including DCC alumni and Executive VP/Chief Brand Officer Charlotte Jones, daughter of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the solo performances also have the candidates watching each other give everything as they move through the final phase of the audition process prior to training camp. While the number of candidates in the solo round changes from season to season, the final group that comes out is around 45-50 cheerleaders ready for training camp.
DCC Candidates Are Cut Throughout Training Camp To Build The Team
The Cheerleaders Aren't Officially On The Team Until The End Of Camp
Netflix's America's Sweethearts series primarily focuses on getting from DCC training camp to the rest of the season. It's the most notable and grueling part of the season's audition process. While training camp isn't necessarily an audition from day to day, it gives Kelli and Judy the chance to continue to evaluate the candidates based on their performances and how they show up professionally. Weeding out those who aren't able to move through the pressures of a typical season with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, training camp has a high-pressure quality that brings out the best and worst of America's Sweethearts.
