With more reinforcements being brought in behind the scenes, Manchester United’s summer rebuild under Ruben Amorim is starting to take shape.
Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million signing has already been confirmed by the Red Devils, and they are working harder to bolster their attack.
This summer, United has made it plain that they want to provide a forward line that adds versatility, goals and dynamism.
However, Manchester United is not content with this acquisition and is currently working even harder to capture Brentford FC’s Cameroon wonder Bryan Mbeumo.
The Cameroon international has had an amazing season for Brentford, scoring 20 goals and dishing out nine assists in 42 games.
Since CentreDevils initially broke the Red Devil’s interest, it has rapidly increased since then.
Manchester United initially submitted a £45 mil plus £10 mil bid for the Cameroon star per David Ornstien via The Athletic.
However since then, it’s been utter silence since with a few reports every few days suggesting advancements of the deal.
There’s also been reports of a possible hijack.
However, what is the real truth on the situation?
I’ll try summarise as much as I can here based off what I know and have been told.

First thing which is important to point out is that both clubs have been in constant negotiations since the rejection of the first bid.
It’s not a case where the club are dragging the deal out on purpose which is what some people believe.
Both Brentford and Manchester United have been in direct club-to-club contact and had several meetings in recent days and weeks.
These meetings were regarded as “productive”.
One of the reasons as to such a long delay is due to the fact that there is a clear difference between the fee for Mbeumo.
While Brentford value the attacker close to the fee United paid for Matheus Cunha, the Red Devils believe a fee lower is more reasonable.
Just like in any transfer, the two clubs have to find a middle ground with both clubs staying firm, one reason for the hold up.
As things stand, internally there is still a feeling of confidence an agreement can be reached.
It’s highly likely that United’s second bid will be there final one.
Another reason for the delay : United want to make sure their final bid is one which has the highest chance of being accepted.
A lot of reports stating that the deal is close are off the mark as things stand and more than likely guesswork to try and get it right first.
While a deal is looking more optimistic from Manchester United’s camp, no agreement has been reached yet despite reports.
A second bid is still expected to go in with internal meetings taking place daily to discuss it.
