Tom Benson's granddaughter arrested following alleged altercation with parking officer

Rita Benson LeBlanc, the granddaughter of the late New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson, was arrested following an alleged altercation involving an officer in Charleston, South Carolina.

LeBlanc, 48, has been charged with hindering an an officer, according to jail records.

Officers originally responded to Meeting and Water Streets in downtown Charleston following a report of a parking enforcement officer being pushed, WCSC-TV reports.

Sgt. Chris Stinson told the Charleston TV station that LeBlanc briefly took an officer's parking boot locking tool as he was putting it on a vehicle in downtown Charleston. As a result, she was arrested and booked into the Charleston County Jail on Monday. She was released from jail Tuesday afternoon on a personal recognizance bond.

A court date has been set for LeBlanc on July 24.

LeBlanc served as an executive and co-owner of the Saints and the Pelicans before her two-year tenure ended in 2014 following her firing by her grandfather. Tom Benson's wife, Gayle Benson, became principal owner of the Saints in 2018 after his death.
