Former Heir to NFL Team Arrested After Bizarre Incident With Police

The granddaughter of a late NFL owner has been arrested and charged following a confrontation with a parking enforcement officer in South Carolina.

According to P.J. Williams of Live 5 News, Rita LeBlanc, who is the granddaughter of late New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson, was arrested and charged with hindering an officer/city employee, per Charleston County jail records.

The incident occurred on Monday at Meeting and Water Streets. LeBlanc is accused of pushing the officer and briefly taking the officer's parking boot locking tool while it was being applied to her vehicle.

LeBlanc, 48, was released the next day on "Personal Recognizance" bond.

LeBlanc started working for the Saints in 2000 and was in line to be the next owner before her grandfather married Gayle Benson in 2004.

This isn't the first time Leblanc has been in the news.

Back in 2012, Jeff Duncan of the NOLA.com reported that LeBlanc was put on administrative leave by her own grandfather because of "lack of focus and abrasive management style."

The report also revealed that Benson was unhappy with LeBlanc's sense of entitlement, and sources claimed she went through 30 personal assistants in six years.

Benson passed away in 2018. On top of owning the Saints, Benson also purchased the then-New Orleans Hornets, who are now the Pelicans. The ownership of both teams was passed on to his wife, Gayle, after his death.
