NFL Predicts Caleb Williams Explodes For Way Bigger Year Than We Think

Football is a team game. Everybody says it whenever they’re asked how you win in the NFL. It is true. Nobody can argue that. However, the deeper truth is that football is a quarterback game. Without at least a top 10 quarterback, you’re not competing for championships unless you have an absolutely stacked roster. Five of the last six Super Bowls have been won by somebody who likely ends up in the Hall of Fame (Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady). The only exception is Jalen Hurts, who was assisted by a loaded Eagles team. The Chicago Bears followed that path in 1985, but it’s incredibly difficult. That is why they’ve spent decades seeking out that elusive quarterback. Enter Caleb Williams.

The former #1 overall pick has all the talent you could want. He’s athletic, fast, has a strong arm, and can throw with layered accuracy. His playmaking instincts are some of the best to come out of college in the past decade. Still, some aren’t sure what to expect from Williams this year after his uneven rookie season. Most projections have him hovering around 3700-3900 passing yards and 22-25 touchdowns. > There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the Bears’ second-year quarterback and his ability to make good on all the promise that made him the top pick in the 2024 draft. One thing that shouldn’t be doubted is whether he’ll become the first Chicago signal-caller to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. Williams won’t just reach that barrier; he’ll blow it away, especially when considering all the advantages he has working for him now. The Bears hired the best offensive mind available to be their head coach in Ben Johnson.

> They’ve rebuilt the offensive line, drafted more pass catchers (tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III) and filled more holes on the defense. Williams threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns last season when he was running for his life and trying too hard to extend plays. Better coaching and an improved supporting cast will make life much easier for him, and the numbers will bear that out.

No Bears quarterback in history has ever topped 4,000 yards or 30 touchdowns in over a century of the team’s existence. It has become a constant talking point among the media every year. Some like Erik Kramer and Jay Cutler came close but couldn’t quite get over the hump. Caleb Williams looks like he’s in by far the best position to do so. He has a multitude of weapons at his disposal, led by D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze. The offensive line was shored up. Even if it’s not elite, any improvement will help him. Most importantly, Ben Johnson brings his offensive aptitude from Detroit. His ability to make life easy for the quarterback can’t be disputed. If everything comes together as expected, such an explosive season from Williams is hardly implausible.
