Liverpool could look to bring Crystal Palace’s asking price for Marc Guehi with a player-plus-cash deal. The Reds are reportedly set to table a significant offer for the defender, who has just 12 months left on his contract at Selhurst Park.
Guehi has been the subject of hefty bids from Tottenham and Newcastle previously and therefore any deal for the Palace skipper won’t be cheap. However, Liverpool are in the heart of a rebuild and could look to kill two birds with one stone by using a makeweight in negotiations to reduce the cost of any deal.
Express Sport takes a look at who the Reds could offer…
Joe Gomez
Liverpool have used Jarrell Quansah’s move to Bayer Leverkusen to fund their move for Guehi, but he may not be the only defender heading out of the Anfield exit.
Gomez remains a bit-part player on Merseyside and he could find himself as being fourth-choice centre-back next season behind Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Guehi. The 28-year-old could therefore be the ideal transfer fee-reducer for Liverpool, especially with Palace in the market for a replacement.
Konstantinos Tsimikas
Although he lacks true market value, Palace are on the lookout for a new left wing-back now that Ben Chilwell has returned to Chelsea after his loan spell, and Tsimikas may fit the bill. The Greek international could have the attacking instincts to thrive in the role and provide an alternative option to Tyrick Mitchell.
Harvey Elliott
Midfielder Elliott appears an obvious candidate to head to Palace as part of a deal for Guehi. The playmaker would have the opportunity to be a key player in Oliver Glasner’s system, and his versatility would make him a very useful asset when Palace look to rotate their ranks to deal with European football. Elliott has spoken about how he may be forced to leave Liverpool in search of more game time, and he would certainly be granted that at Selhurst Park.
Ben Doak
Palace have been heavily linked with Doak previously, and the Scottish international’s availability could see him become the makeweight that the Eagles demand. The winger is valued at £30million, and reports suggest that Liverpool would be willing to sell Doak this summer if their valuation is met.
