Report: Arsenal have started considering £60m striker now after Sesko and Gyokeres deals become too expensive

Arsenal are working very hard to sign a new striker.

The Gunners need a prolific goalscorer to have the best chance of winning the Premier League title after finishing second in each of the last three seasons.

The two big names Andrea Berta is working on are Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, who are both top-class strikers.

But a move to sign either one of them is proving to be difficult.

Arsenal consider Ollie Watkins again after issues with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres deals

Either Sesko or Gyokeres would be brilliant for Arsenal.

The Leipzig star is arguably the best striker of his age in the world, and many in the game feel that he will become a superstar in the coming years.

Gyokeres, on the other hand, is much older, and his numbers over the last two seasons – nearly 100 goals – are just remarkable. That is why Berta wants him.

However, The Times have now revealed that people at Arsenal have concerns about the price tags of both Sesko and Gyokeres this summer.

It has been claimed that the Gunners see Gyokeres’ £80 million valuation as ‘too steep’ because his performances have come in the Portuguese league, while the feeling around Sesko’s £75 million price tag is that it is ‘too high’ because he is unproven in the Premier League.

That is why Arsenal have once again started considering Ollie Watkins, for whom Mikel Arteta had a bid rejected for in January. Aston Villa demanded £60 million for him at the time.

Signing Ollie Watkins would be a big risk for Arsenal

Ollie Watkins is a phenomenal striker; there is no debate there.

The Englishman has managed to hit double figures in goals for Aston Villa in each of the last few seasons, and it won’t be a surprise if he can do it at a bigger club.

However, what makes him a risky signing for Arsenal is the fact that he is 29 already – he will turn 30 in December.

Should Arsenal really be spending massive money on someone so old when they have had previous bad experiences with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Willian?

We think the Gunners would be better off paying whatever it takes for either Sesko or Gyokeres.
