Aston Villa are plotting a move to sign Mason Mount if he is allowed to leave Man United, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Unai Emery is an admirer of the 26-year-old.
Having got back to full fitness at United, Villa are hopeful they could help him to rediscover the form he showed during his time at Chelsea.
This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 17 June that Man United will accept offers for Mount following the arrival of Matheus Cunha.
The England midfielder has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford on the back of a horrible two seasons riddled by injury and poor form, and they are now prepared to entertain offers for his signature.
Villa, meanwhile, are keen to add to their attacking ranks after both Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio left the club following their loan spells.

In a difficult season for Mount at Old Trafford, he made 26 appearances across all competitions and just 11 starts, and could be tempted to move on.

“United have tried to establish whether there is a market for Mason Mount,” he told Football Insider.
“Aston Villa have been spoken about and I think they could make a move.
“People remember Mason Mount at his best, that what Villa want to help him get back to and it looks like he’s back to full fitness now.
“His move to Man United hasn’t been positive by any means, but he’s still a talented player.
“Villa want to strengthen because they’ve lost Rashford and Asensio, so Mount is on their list.
“Unai Emery is a fan of his and feels he could help him to rediscover his Chelsea form.
*“It would be an excellent move for Mount as well, because Villa are a top club, they’ve got top facilities and they’ll be playing in Europe.*“
