Patrick Dorgu explains what is so 'different' about Manchester United, 'I just need to...'

In January, Manchester United won the race for highly coveted left wing-back Patrick Dorgu.

The Danish youngster had been considered one of the world’s highest potential full-backs at the time, shining in a very poor Lecce side who survived relegation by just three points.

Patrick Dorgu is a signing as much for the future as for immediate, however, some early struggles led to critique over the 20-year-old at Manchester United.

Dorgu cost United £25m, a figure which will look like a bargain should he fulfil his potential which he is promising to do, with signs of how good he can be.

The addition of Dorgu has been praised by Edwin van der Sar, and is one of Ineos’ recruitment masterstrokes which could benefit United long-term.

Dorgu had a decent opening four months at United, but knows next season improvements are needed.

“It’s been tough, challenging,” Dorgu admitted.

“But I’m happy I played a lot. I think the manager trusts me and I try to help the team, so I’m just happy to be on the pitch and I try to do my best.

“It’s a bit different from my old team, but I was playing attacking there as well. I just need to adapt to the players and how everyone moves on the pitch.

“It’s obviously different (at United) because the fanbase is so massive. A lot of people talk! Everyone is talking about United. It is difficult for young players, but I think if you have the right mentality, I think everyone can cope with it, and it’s about performing on the pitch.”

Dorgu certainly has earned Amorim’s trust already, being a regular on the left and also trusted on the right at times.

Dorgu was defensively solid, winning duels and tackles regularly, while his physicality and pace made him a difficult task for any attacker he faced.

In the attack, Dorgu has recevied some critiques, having not scored or assisted in his 20 games played, however below the surface of this, the Dane has been regularly creating chances and putting crosses into dangerous areas.

This was were he encountered the issue of United’s forwards always being in the wrong place, or scuppering opportunities with poor finishing.

Dorgu will benefit from Matheus Cunha’s addition, along with subsequent attacking arrivals at Old Trafford, and all signs suggest he will be a star.
