Report: Liverpool moving to sign Marc Guehi is now dependent on one absolutely key factor this summer

Most Liverpool fans anticipated the Anfield outfit to be busy in the summer transfer window, but nobody could have guessed how quickly they’d spring into action.

At the moment, only Jeremie Frimpong’s arrival has been officially confirmed, with the transfers of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez not too far away either.

Arne Slot’s men were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last term, and with all these new additions, it’s hard to see how Liverpool won’t be the team to beat once again.

Indeed, with all of these players arriving at Anfield, it means that some players will have to be sold on, which is why Jarell Quansah isn’t far away from moving to Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool are already eyeing up a replacement for the Englishman in Marc Guehi, with the key factor behind a deal for the Crystal Palace captain now being revealed.

Liverpool want to sign Marc Guehi due to the price he’s available for

Over the last couple of seasons, Guehi has really come into his own and has established himself as one of England’s best centre-backs.

Newcastle were the team most interested in him during the January transfer window, but in the end, nothing came to fruition.

And now, seeing as though the Englishman only has a year left on his deal at Selhurst Park, it seems like Palace want to sell him on to earn as much money as possible from his sale.

That is, according to a report from BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel, who shared that the reason Slot is so interested in acquiring his services is due to ‘Palace’s asking price’ for the defender.

Mokbel adds that four offers from the Magpies were rejected last term, with the highest reaching £65million.

But, as he’s only got 12 months left on his deal, he could leave for free at the end of the 2025-26 season, which would be far from ideal for Oliver Glasner and his men.

The report finishes off by adding that if Liverpool can’t strike a deal with the Eagles this summer, they would be ‘interested’ in acquiring Guehi’s services for free at the end of the season.

Marc Guehi would be an impressive signing for Liverpool

Liverpool have already done themselves proud in the summer transfer window with a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold getting sorted within a week of him officially leaving.

It’s clear that FSG have changed their tune somewhat over the last couple of seasons, with the American businessmen now seemingly loosening their purse strings a lot more.

Indeed, this is likely one of the last times Liverpool will have a transfer window like this due to the Premier League’s PSR rules, but for now, it’s something that fans can enjoy being a part of.

Once Quansah has exited, Liverpool will need to turn their attention towards a new centre-back, and it’d be rather hard for them to find a better candidate than Guehi to bring in.

The centre-back has an abundance of Premier League experience, which, if they’re gunning for the title again, is something that will be vital.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen to Slot’s team by the first game of the 2025-26 Premier League season, but with the way things are headed, it feels like fans should strap in for yet another enjoyable campaign.
