Rumour Mongering: Darwin Napoli Transfer Moves Closer, Ekitike Price Starts Dropping

It’s Florian Friday in Liverpool FC land, but the transfer rumours keep on cooking.

Darwin Nunez looks like he’s nearing an exit, with Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reporting that Liverpool are prepared to accept a fee of £42m plus add-ons. Napoli are currently at £37m but are keen to negotiate quickly to avoid other clubs hijacking the deal.

And while hype around a potential move for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak continues to build, the emergence of this rumour has had ripple effects.

There are now rumours abound that the price for Liverpool’s previous top striking target, Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, is about to drop. Speaking on his his YouTube channel. Fabrizio Romano said:

“Eintracht Frankfurt asked Chelsea for £84m a few weeks ago for Hugo Ekitike,”

“However, there’s a feeling among top English clubs that Frankfurt may accept around £68m to £76m for him in the coming days or weeks.”

This seemed pretty obvious when Chelsea engaged both Ekitike and Eintracht Frankfurt in talks, but nothing happened. No one wanted to pay that fee. Liverpool appears to be playing it masterfully at the moment, staying in the race for a potential Isak move should that player push for a move to Anfield, while leaving the door open for their backup plan Ekitike, who seems to be dragging it out for a chance to move to the Reds.
