**An “outstanding” Liverpool player has now confirmed his decision about his Anfield future, dropping a significant update on social media.**
Taking to [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/DLHRGIptNIj/?hl=en&img_index=1) on Friday morning, Joe Gomez said he intends to stay put with the Reds this summer, despite speculation surrounding his future:
“10 years ago as a kid moving from south east London to Liverpool, I couldn’t even imagine looking this far into the future,” Gomez wrote.
“Looking back now I’m full of gratitude & take so much pride in being a part of this club and city. No denying the challenges along the way, but embracing them to grow as both a player and a person is something I’ve always tried to do & I’m grateful for all the support in trying to do that.
“It’s been a blessing to be a part of the different dressing rooms and getting to create such special memories over the years with so many great players & staff.I felt it was important to share my thanks to you all for the support throughout the years, it’s always meant the world and I will never take it for granted.A decade in red… and still hungry to keep going.”
**Gomez staying a great outcome for Liverpool**
-----------------------------------------------
Gomez staying at Liverpool has few negatives to it, with the 28-year-old now the longest-serving player at the club and such an experienced head.
The Englishman can continue to be a brilliant squad player for the Reds, with his versatility allowing him shine at both centre-back and right-back, and he is a likeable figure to have in the dressing room.
Had it not been for serious injuries, Gomez could easily have featured more prominently down the years, and [Virgil van Dijk](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/c6pm869j64vo) is a huge admirer, describing him as an “outstanding” player.
The defender’s current deal runs until the summer of 2027, so a decision may need to be made about his future next year, with Liverpool needing to decide whether to extend his stay, receive a fee for him or allow him to leave for free in two years.
For now, though, Gomez remains an important squad figure for Arne Slot, and him staying paves the way for Jarell Quansah to join Bayer Leverkusen, with Crystal Palac’s Marc Guehi potentially coming in as his replacement.
