PSG stunned by Botafogo in Club World Cup

The winners of the Copa Libertadores, Botafogo, beat European champions Paris Saint-Germain (1-0) at the Rose Bowl in the biggest shock of the FIFA Club World Cup so far.

PSG beat Atletico Madrid 4-0 in their first game of the tournament but fielded a weakened side against Botafogo, which included second-string options such as Gonçalo Ramos, Senny Mayulu, Warren Zaïre-Emery, and Lucas Beraldo.

PSG, winners of this season’s UEFA Champions League, went behind through a deflected Igor Jesus strike in the first half and, despite chances to equalise, the Ligue 1 side could not restore parity. _“It’s for the whole of Brazil. We play football, too,”_ said Botafogo’s owner, John Textor, after their slender win in Pasadena.

The defeat leaves PSG in need of a result when they face Seattle Sounders on Monday. Botafogo currently top their group with six points. _Les Parisiens_ and Atletico Madrid are both on three points, whilst MLS side Seattle Sounders are yet to pick up their first point in the tournament.
