Liverpool player accused of using club for renewal hype – Looks to be working out for him

Liverpool’s Luis Díaz has two years left on his contract and has been repeatedly linked to Barcelona.

On Monday, Sport reported the Reds have offered an improved contract to the forward. Since then, several claims from Spain have stated Athletic’s Nico Williams has overtaken the Liverpool player to be Barcelona’s main target.

Two days ago, Mundo Deportivo reported the La Liga winners are losing patience with the 28-year-old. They are also upset with his agent for not trying to quickly push his client out of Liverpool.

Marca explain why Barcelona are now prioritising a move for Williams over Díaz.

They state negotiations to sign the 22-year-old Spain international are advanced, but it’s not closed yet. The Catalan club are optimistic of completing this operation.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, and sporting director, Deco, have approved a move for the Colombia international. They would no longer be as keen on signing him as they were a few weeks ago.

Marca state the Spanish champions have been getting a feeling that the Liverpool attacker may be ‘using Barcelona to negotiate a better renewal offer or to get other clubs to raise the offer they’ve already made.’

Díaz may be successful after the recent claim from Sport that Liverpool have made a renewal offer.

In addition to this, Liverpool are refusing to negotiate the South American’s sale for less than €80m. Barca don’t want to pay this figure for a player who is ‘showing lukewarmness in his ambition to wear the Blaugrana shirt.’
