Bayer Leverkusen close to finalising deal for 22-year-old Premier League defender ahead of…

· 20 June 2025, 10:30

**Newcastle United have already missed out on a few alleged transfer targets this summer, a couple of which fans had got quite excited about.**

Bryan Mbeumo looked almost nailed on to join Newcastle for months before he made a decision to join Manchester United - and now even that move is in doubt with Thomas Frank taking over at Tottenham.

Matheus Cunha was another alleged target who chose Manchester United over Newcastle, while Liam Delap opted for the Chelsea madhouse.

However, not every transfer link has captured the attention of the Newcastle fans, and now that Bayer Leverkusen appear to be winning the race for Liverpool's Jarell Quansah, there are many Newcastle fans breathing a sigh of relief.

Jarell Quansah looks set to move to Bayer Leverkusen

----------------------------------------------------

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Bayer Leverkusen are close to agreeing terms with the Premier League champions over a £35 million move for the 22-year-old defender.

Newcastle have been linked with Quansah for a while, but there weren't many Geordies who were convinced he'd be a good signing.

Jarell Quansah struggled to get game time for the Reds last season as they strolled to the Premier League title, and now at the Under-21 European Championships, he appears to be struggling.

The replies to David Ornstein's post are wild

---------------------------------------------

Looking at the replies to Ornstein's post on X, it seems that the general consensus is that he's not worth anywhere near the figures being quoted, and while that's not coming from Newcastle fans, and a lot of it is noise from Everton fans, there are Liverpool fans who agree that they're getting an amazing deal.

There are claims of money laundering from some Chelsea fans in there, too, which is so ironic that even Alanis Morissette fully understands the definition.

Hopefully, the deal with Leverkusen goes through, so we don't have to worry about Quansah coming to Newcastle. Although, as we always say, Eddie Howe can turn the average into greatness, we'd rather not take the risk in this case.
