Liverpool have all but officially announced the transfer of Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, agreeing a British record transfer fee that could reach £116 million.

The Premier League champions have agreed to pay Bayer Leverkusen an initial £100 million, with an additional £16 million available through performance-related bonuses.

Should these add-ons be triggered, the total package would surpass the £115 million Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023, establishing a new British transfer record.

Sky Sports has now revealed that Florian Wirtz is expected to be announced today with the German international currently doing a second part of his medical.

Journalist Ben Ransom reports:

“Part 2 of his medical is underway as he looks to complete that move, obviously he will then have to sign that contract.”

“He could earn up to 245,000 per week which is a huge statement from Liverpool to bring this player here as Premier League champions.”

“So that’s what we waiting for… I’m sure there will be some media duties as the club looks to make that worldwide splash with some sort of content to be released with the official announcement.”

“As I’ve said, we are expecting that today [the announcement].”

Wirtz arrived in the UK on Thursday evening via Manchester Airport, with footage circulating of the players entourage leaving Cologne Bonn Airport on Thursday afternoon.

The 22-year-old is not represented by an external agency but instead his parents, who brokered the deal to Liverpool.

The attacker had to cut short his holiday short this week to finalize his deal to Merseyside.

For Bayer Leverkusen, the sale of Wirtz marks a club-record outgoing transfer. The 22-year-old is poised to sign a five-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2030.
