Manchester United are eyeing a loan move for Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha after shifting focus from costly targets.
Joao Palhinha Loan on the Cards as United Shift Transfer Focus
Man Utd are reportedly ready to explore a loan move for **Bayern Munich**’s Joao Palhinha. This comes after being priced out of a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson. They have already spent £62.5m to sign Matheus Cunha. Now, head coach Ruben Amorim is looking at midfield options.
Palhinha has become a top option due to both his Premier League experience and his quality as a defensive player. Although, he has hardly played in Germany since leaving Fulham last summer. The Red Devils have been aware of the Portuguese midfielder during his time at Fulham. As per sources, they are closely watching his situation at Bayern.
Amorim sees the player as a perfect fit for his midfield setup. Internal discussions have already taken place about a potential deal if Bayern open the door.
Loan Could Work for Both Sides Ahead of New Season
Palhinha’s situation at Bayern is complicated at the moment. Some reports suggests that the club initially wanted to transfer him for £30m. But, they are now looking at a loan move to allow him to regain form.
The 29 year-old earns around £200,000-a-week and has a few bonuses. He has a contract until 2028, meaning Bayern are not in a hurry to sell him. However, he is has been unable to break back into the starting XI for Vincent Kompany. This can create an opening for a loan bid that may suit both him and United.
Amorim is planning to bring more competition in the midfield for Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte. The head coach is looking to make quite a few changes into the squad this summer.
