Newcastle United reportedly paid £10m plus bonuses to buy William Osula from Sheffield United in August of last year.
The striker joined Sheffield United’s academy from FC Copenhagen in 2018 and was promoted to their first team in 2022.
He scored three goals from 31 games for Sheffield United, who let him spend the 2022/23 season on loan at Derby County. Although the 21-year-old’s statistics weren’t impressive, Newcastle United still went ahead with the operation.
Osula is part of the Denmark squad at the ongoing U21 Euros and has been speaking to Campo.dk, to explain the gap in quality between Newcastle and Sheffield United.
The Denmark U21 international insists the Blades had high quality as they were in the Premier League two seasons ago and came close to securing promotion in May. Sheffield United lost the Championship play-off final to Sunderland.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have qualified for the Champions League, after missing out on Europe this season. Osula says he can feel the changes since leaving Sheffield United for the Magpies.
“Yes, you can feel that 100%. In everyday life in training and during the matches. The fact that those you play with have great quality,” he said.
“It was also high quality at Sheffield United. They were also in the Premier League. But of course, there is a difference, also because Newcastle is a bigger club.”
Osula finished his debut season without starting a single Premier League fixture. He has recently asked Eddie Howe to offer him more minutes at Newcastle United next season.
