Arsenal youngster Lucas Martin Nygaard has explained why he turned down Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and others to join the Gunners instead.
[Ekstra Bladet](https://ekstrabladet.dk/) have an interview with the 18-year-old today, as he makes his way up the ranks at the Emirates.
He joined Arsenal on a free transfer in July last year after finding himself as a free agent after leaving FC Nordsjaelland U19’s in January last year.
He’s been a regular for Arsenal’s youth sides since, with nine appearances for the U21s to date and three for the UEFA U19s squad as well.
The youngster is considered a potential star for the future and even revealed earlier this month that he’s spoken to Arsenal about a loan move this summer in order to fast forward his development.
The Gunners had to go through something of a battle to secure his signature in the first place, with a host of European clubs showing an interest in him when he was available on a free last summer.
PSG were one of them as they continue their transition towards focusing on young players and not superstar names. Indeed, he spent time training with them at one point, before eventually deciding that Arsenal was the better choice for his career.
_“There were many clubs to turn to last summer. Monaco was really interested, and Juventus was really interested,”_ he said.
_“PSG and Arsenal were also really interested, but the choice fell on Arsenal in the end. I was down there (at PSG) training to see what it was like. It was also a great experience. It was a bit difficult, though, because they didn’t really speak English._
_“It was a bit difficult there, but I just take all the experiences and knowledge I get from the different places. Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they have a really good project going. When I was there training, when I had to choose where I would like to play, I was impressed._
_“I think the people around the club, my teammates and the project were really exciting. I could see myself in it, so that’s why I chose them.”_
