Newcastle United star Alexander Isak on shortlist for PFA Players' Player of the Year award

· 20 June 2025, 11:30

**Alexander Isak bagged 23 Premier League goals for Newcastle United last season, as well as four more goals in the cups, one of which proved to be the winner in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.**

To say that Isak's form has attracted outside attention would be an understatement, with persistent and borderline obnoxious rumours around Liverpool and Arsenal having dreams of signing the striker driving Newcastle fans to distraction.

However, it's not all negative, as that attention has also seen our Swedish superstar nominated for the PFA Players' Player of the Year.

As with most of these things, we already know where the honour is going to end up, but it's still fantastic to see one of our lads in the mix.

The six-man shortlist for PFA Players' Player of the Year has been announced

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alexander Isak finds himself in esteemed company, as well as Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes, on the shortlist for the award.

The other nominees are Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister, Cole Palmer of Chelsea, and Arsenal's Declan Rice.

All PFA Awards nominees are voted for by the PFA's Membership - the players - and the winner will be honoured on Tuesday, 19th August at the 52nd annual PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester.

Of course Mo Salah will win but at least Isak is in the mix

-----------------------------------------------------------

We all know that Mo Salah is going to pick up the gong, and it would be hard to argue against it should it prove to be the case.

How Bruno Fernandes ended up on the list is beyond us. It must have been due to him leading Manchester United to all those trophies ... wait, no, it's not that. Perhaps it was guiding them to such a high league position ... no, that's not it either. How strange.

We know Arsenal didn't win anything, but they pushed Liverpool for a long time, and Declan Rice was key in that, so we can just about understand that nomination, but our anti-Man United goggles will not let us see the justification for Fernandes.

Good luck to Isak in August, there's still a chance - the Liverpool and Arsenal players might vote for him to try and soften him up for a move and then when he wins, Newcastle will slap another £20 million on his valuation.
