West Ham transfers | The deal that just keeps on taking

Without rehashing the whole history, [West Ham](https://www.claretandhugh.info/cornet-exit-should-trigger-soler-deal/) are in a lose / lose situation regarding their least successful transfer since Nicola Vlasic. It is a case of taking the “_least worst_” option to deal with a David Moyes’ signing who has hardly set the world alight during his three years as a West Ham player.

Like Vlasic – but at only half the price –  Moyes signed Maxwell Cornet from Burnley on a five year deal and never really took to the Ivorian. Cornet’s decision to head off away from the UK whilst injured to ‘look for a cure’ meant that Moyes never turned to the winger again – and following a failed loan spell at Southhampton, Cornet again headed off for the second half of last season on loan to Italian side Genoa.

Despite more muscle strains keeping him out for several games, Cornet’s loan at Genoa under former Gunner Patrick Viera was deemed a success and the Italain serieA side would like to pick up the loan again next season. The problem as always, is down to the player’s bumper wage packet being more than the Italians can pay: Hence they’d like the Hammers to contribute towards Cornet’s reported £60k a week salary.

As per [_sportwitness.co.uk_](https://sportwitness.co.uk/cheeky-effort-to-sign-west-ham-player-with-hammers-paying-salary-chunk/) West Ham will effectively have to pay to subsidise Cornet’s wages and keep him away from London Stadium:

_“They want him on a loan deal and are asking West Ham for a big contribution to his salary for next season. Their intention is to divide the cost of the salary and there is uncertainty about the percentage share involved.”_

West Ham will have to weigh up the chances of selling Cornet to get the winger’s salary off the payroll – pretty remote – or just keep stumping up thousands weekly to keep him at Genoa. Cornet’s transfer is the West Ham deal that just seems to keep on taking.
