While Liverpool’s title-winning exploits saw Salah rack up 29 goals and 18 assists, and Mac Allister anchor Arne Slot’s midfield, Fernandes quietly racked up 38 goal contributions in 57 matches across all competitions – a remarkable achievement given United’s lack of cohesion and tactical upheaval last season.
He finished with 8 Premier League goals and provided countless moments of quality in a dismal season for his side.
Many expected the shortlist to be dominated by Manchester City names, but no player from the third-placed team made the final cut, a fact that adds even more prestige to Fernandes’ inclusion.
The winner will be crowned at a glamorous ceremony at the Manchester Opera House on August 19, alongside the PFA’s WSL, Championship and youth category awards.
