Manchester City have been punished for multiple breaches throughout the 2024/25 Premier League season, including against Manchester United.

The Citizens are already in hot water, being investigated for a total of 115 offences dating between 2009 and 2018, including failing to cooperate with the Premier League’s investigation which began in 2023.

However, on top of this, The Daily Mail has reported that City have been fined around £1 million for breaching a Premier League rule on nine occasions last season.

Rule L.33 stets out that all Premier League teams must kick off the first and second halves of a match in a punctual manner, else experience being fined.

The fine received is also set to increase with each offence, building with each kickoff delay.

It’s understood that City’s first breach saw them receive a £40,000 fine, with their ninth offence wracking up £190,000.

One such offence came against Manchester United in The Red Devils’ 2-1 win over the Citizens at the Etihad in December 2024.

A statement from the Premier League reads: “The Premier League and Manchester City FC have entered into a sanction agreement after the club accepted it had breached Premier League Rule L.33 in relation to kick-off and re-start obligations.”

It continued:” The breaches occurred in nine Premier League matches during the 2024/25 season.

“Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs.

“It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule.”

Whilst these disputes appear to have been resolved, the ongoing judgement over the reported 115 breaches is still yet to have a verdict.
