Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi has been linked with a move to Liverpool
Marc Guehi could make his competitive debut against current club, Crystal Palace, in the Community Shield should a move materialise during this summer transfer window. The defender has admirers at Anfield and is under consideration by the club as part of their transfer plans.
Jeremie Frimpong is also in line to debut at Wembley Stadium in the season's annual curtain-raiser after becoming the Reds' first signing. There will already be one change from the first match of last season after Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid, but potentially as many as three.
Jarell Quansah also started that day against Ipswich Town and is now closing in on a £35million move. Talks with Bayer Leverkusen are understood to now be advanced.
Andy Robertson was another in the first Premier League starting line-up that Arne Slot named as the Liverpool head coach. The left-back has emerged as a leading transfer target for Atletico Madrid.
Even if Robertson remains a Red by the end of pre-season, the club are in ongoing talks to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. The expectation is he would challenge for a starting role after arriving as part of a deal potentially worth as much as £45million.
Guehi would seemingly cost at least around the same amount and presumably provide competition to Ibrahima Konate, who Quansah notably started ahead of on the opening weekend last season. The France international replaced the academy graduate at half-time of that match before becoming a regular under Slot.
However, vying for a place with an established England international rather than a player only on the fringes of that set-up would be a much more keenly contested challenge. With uncertainty about the future of Konate as contract talks continue, that could be a factor giving Guehi the edge to partner Virgil van Dijk.
Dream Liverpool defence next season: Frimpong, Van Dijk, Guehi, Kerkez.
