Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford is expected to leave Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United have reportedly approached Real Madrid about a deal to take Marcus Rashford off their hands.

The outcast forward seems certain to quit Old Trafford this summer, but not to join Aston Villa, where he played on loan for the second half of last season.

The loan deal included an option for a permanent move for £40m, but Villa do not hold first refusal rights and are not minded to pursue a deal in any case.

In fact, Barcelona is believed to be Rashford's preferred choice, with rumours suggesting he is prepared to accept a wage cut to facilitate a transfer. But with the Catalan club reportedly on the brink of signing Nico Williams, it seems they have little interest in taking Rashford either.

It is understood United harbour reservations about approving a move to Camp Nou too. According to DefensaCentral, previous financial issues at Barcelona have raised concerns at Old Trafford that they may not be able to pay the requested £40m in a 'timely manner'.

In response, United are claimed to have offered Real the opportunity to sign Rashford. New manager Xabi Alonso is seeking a new striker this summer as a direct replacement for Joselu, reports the Manchester Evening News.

They claim Real have already evaluated how Rashford could integrate into their team and concluded he doesn't match the profile they are looking for. It is further noted that the £40 million transfer fee surpasses the budget set by the club this summer, making a transfer for Rashford an 'increasingly remote option'.

Inter Milan tentatively enquired about Rashford when they expressed interest in Rasmus Hojlund earlier this month but the Champions League finalists would only consider a loan deal.
