Man United are still pushing to agree a deal with Aston Villa over goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, sources have told Football Insider.
Sources say United have been in regular contact with the 32-year-old and are “ringing him every day” to get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.
However, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 19 June that Martinez has his heart set on Atletico Madrid, who recently joined the race for his signature.
The Spanish giants are considering their options in goal as they fear losing top shot-stopper Jan Oblak amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.
Martinez has emerged as a top target for both United and Atletico, with Villa under pressure to sell star players in an attempt to balance the books.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 18 June that Villa must make a sale within 10 days to comply with profit and sustainability rules and avoid a possible points deduction.
