Exclusive: How Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish feels about selling Marc Guehi to Liverpool

TBR Football can exclusively reveal how Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish feels about selling Marc Guehi this summer.

The 24-year-old has been one of the most highly sought-after defenders over the last couple of transfer windows, with several clubs attempting to sign him.

Tottenham made a bid for Guehi in January, in a late move to try and bolster their defence. And last summer, Newcastle saw several bids rejected, with the Magpies bidding as high as £70m.

The latest report suggests that Liverpool are eyeing Guehi as a replacement for Jarell Quansah, with Quansah linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

How the Crystal Palace owner feels about selling Marc Guehi to Liverpool

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that the interest in Guehi is at its strongest with just 12 months left in his current contract to expire.

Liverpool’s interest in Guehi is not new, with the Reds following the defender for more than 12 months.

Aside from Liverpool and Newcastle – Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City are all very much in the mix for Guehi as well, while we can confirm that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also keen, but their interest is centred on a possible free transfer in 2026.

As per TBR Football, despite just 12 months left in his contract, Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish will not allow him to be sold for a cut-price deal – even if that means him going for free next summer.

Marc Guehi could end up staying at Crystal Palace

Not only is negotiating a cut-price fee with Parish going to be a problem for clubs, Bailey believes the player could also prefer to stay at Palace for another year.

This is because, as it stands, Guehi’s current priority – even ahead of his future – is going to the World Cup with England next summer, and to do that, he needs to be playing, something that may not be possible if Konate stays at Liverpool.

Speaking about Guehi’s future, Bailey told TBR Football: “Marc Guehi has a host of options. I am told by sources with knowledge of his situation that to consider any club favourites to get him at this point would be wrong.

“The player has just lifted the FA Cup, Crystal Palace are heading into Europe – there is a real chance he stays at the club this summer.

“Yes, interest is mounting but there is no hurry – he knows the interest is there but any team coming in will need to agree terms with Steve Parish and anyone in football already knows that if you come bargain hunting at Selhurst Park – you are going to go away empty-handed.”
