Everton faces a battle to keep hold of Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The Blues star is attracting significant interest in the transfer market from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham.

No formal bids have been received for the England star at the moment but speculation persists about a potential exit from the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Branthwaite is under contract until 2027, so the ball is in Everton’s court in terms of demanding a huge fee, if he is to depart.

Everton would take ‘silly money’ to sell Branthwaite

David Moyes is keen to build his team around the 22-year-old and the Blues have started contract talks with the Carlisle-born defender.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the Toffees will do everything they can to keep him at the club ahead of the new season.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “I don’t think they should be resigned to losing him, I don’t have privy to the books at Everton but I would have thought they were going to fight tooth and nail to keep him on board.

“Their project now is very clear, isn’t it, go to the new stadium, build a team that excites a bit more than recent editions of Everton teams have, and force their way into the top-half of the table and maybe challenge for Europe.

“Selling a prized asset like Branthwaite does not fit that plan at all, so they won’t want to do it, but I guess bottom line is, they would want something you and I would describe as silly money to do it.

“Somebody would have to blow a hole through the roof kind of offer, say Chelsea came in and said ‘here is £90million, does that change your mind?’, they would then have to think about it.

“I think they are going to play it hard for every last penny and I would be a bit surprised if Everton sold him.

“What I don’t know is where the player’s head is with it, he was strongly linked with a move to Man United. year ago and that did not happen, it may be that he thinks that is he is ready to fly the nest, it is possible.”

Branthwaite must start the season at Everton

While selling Branthwaite for a significant fee would make sense if terms of allowing Moyes and Co to reinvest in the squad, it would be a disastrous move.

He is arguably the best player at the club and finding a replacement with the same quality would be a near-impossible task for Angus Kinnear and his recruitment staff.

Signing the Three Lions ace to fresh terms that better reflect his importance to the Merseysiders would be the best possible start to the window for the Friedkin Group.
