Chelsea confirm first transfer since summer window reopens

Chelsea have confirmed that academy graduate goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe has signed a new contract and moved to Bolton Wanderers on loan for the upcoming season. Sharman-Lowe is currently away with England at the Under-21 Euros.

Having helped Doncaster Rovers to promotion from League Two last year, Sharman-Lowe will now be in League One as he makes the step up. The 22-year-old has not made a senior appearance for the club.

After joining from Burton Albion's youth setup in 2020, Sharman-Lowe has been on several moves including to non-league Havant & Waterlooville and Bromley. Chelsea also sent him back to Burton immediately after he joined.

Sharman-Lowe has played 19 Premier League 2 games for the Chelsea development squad/Under-21s. His contract has been extended until 2028.

He is playing back-up to Brighton academy shot-stopper James Beadle with the England Under-21 side under Lee Carsley in Slovakia. Sharman-Lowe has been unused across the first three games with England scraping through to the knockout rounds despite losing to Germany on Wednesday.

Sharman-Lowe is the first loanee to be confirmed for next season at Chelsea with Bashir Humphreys and Marcus Bettinelli leaving the club. Humphreys has gone to Burnley for £14million after his loan was made permanent following promotion to the Premier League.

For the first-team, Chelsea have added Liam Delap for £30million. Deals for Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr were completed over the winter but have since been announced as well.

Chelsea are still seeking to add more players to their squad. Jamie Gittens has agree personal terms but Borussia Dortmund are holding out for more money.

Speaking about buying a new winger, Enzo Maresca said on Thursday: “We are going to decide to go for a winger not because of [Mykhailo] Mudryk [being suspended]. We want to go for a winger if he is back or not.”
