Two Arsenal players Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey have been shortlisted for the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Women’s Player of the Year award.
This remarkable recognition came after their outstanding performances throughout the 2024-25 season. The duo played pivotal roles in Arsenal’s successful campaign, culminating in the team’s European title victory over Barcelona last month.
Russo has had a stellar season, netting eight times during Arsenal’s European triumph. She also finished as joint top scorer in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with 12 goals.
Her exceptional performance has undoubtedly earned her a place among the top contenders for the award. Caldentey has also had a standout season, contributing nine goals and five assists in the WSL.

She added another eight goals in the Champions League, showcasing her skill and versatility on the pitch.

The nominations of Russo and Caldentey are well-deserved, given their impressive displays have been instrumental in Arsenal’s success.
However, they will face stiff competition from four other talented players. Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert, who played a crucial role in helping her team finish the league season unbeaten, is also in contention for the award.
Manchester City’s Mary Fowler and Yui Hasegawa, as well as Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, complete the list of nominees.

Tullis-Joyce’s impressive performances saw her keep 13 clean sheets in United’s 22 WSL matches.
The winner of the PFA Women’s Player of the Year award will be announced at the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on August 19.
