Florian Wirtz to earn millions more than Luis Diaz and England star at Liverpool

Florian Wirtz is set to earn nearly four times as much as Luis Diaz at Liverpool. The attacking-midfielder arrived in the north west on Friday to seal a record-breaking £116million move from Bayer Leverkusen, which will make him not only Liverpool's most expensive signing ever, but also one of the highest earners in the squad.

Darwin Nunez currently holds the record for the Reds' most money splashed out on a player, having joined from Benfica in 2022 in a deal potentially worth up to £85m with add-ons. However, 22-year-old Wirtz will smash that record when he puts pen to paper. He is expected to be handsomely rewarded over his reported five-year contract, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting that the German international will pocket £200,000 per week, plus bonuses.

To put it into perspective, that's nearly four times the £55,000 weekly wage that Diaz currently earns, according to Spotrac. Mohamed Salah is currently the club's top earner, reportedly taking home £400,000 per week thanks to his new contract, while Capology suggests that Virgil van Dijk earns around £350K per week on his own new deal.

If rumours are to be believed, Wirtz will also out-earn Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch, who both reportedly earn £150,000 per week. Wirtz is also set to earn more than double the weekly wage of England's Joe Gomez, who currently pockets around £85,000 per week.

Following a triumphant Premier League season, manager Arne Slot has swiftly moved to strengthen his squad in preparation for the 2025/26 title defence. Slot secured the services of full-back Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen on a five-year contract at the end of May, after triggering the 24-year-old's £29.5m release clause in the wake of Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid.

And it seems he's keen to further bolster his defence with the potential signing of Crystal Palace centre-half Marc Guehi. Although Liverpool have yet to make a formal bid for Guehi, they could be in pole position to snap him up if they choose to do so.

The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with the Eagles, but securing his signature won't come cheap, as Newcastle United discovered last summer when they had four bids turned down.

Tottenham reportedly tabled an offer worth up to £70m to lure Guehi to north London in January, but that too was rebuffed. Wirtz's arrival could be the first of two times Liverpool break their own transfer record twice this summer, with Slot said to be eyeing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

The Swedish sensation has been a revelation in the Premier League since his £63m switch from Real Sociedad to St James' Park back in 2022, netting an impressive 62 goals in 109 appearances.

Yet, if Liverpool are to tempt the 25-year-old away from his comfortable berth at Newcastle, they'll need to fork out an eye-watering sum. With a contract running until 2028, the Magpies have reportedly put a whopping £150m valuation on Isak this summer.

Eddie Howe is also adamant about keeping his star player, pressing their board to reject any advances. He said: "Alex is under contract, we love him to bits, and we want him to stay. We want him to keep scoring goals for Newcastle for many years. That's my plan."
