**Yesterday was a frustrating day to be a Newcastle United fan, as everywhere we looked, we were hit with a story about Alexander Isak going to Liverpool.**
It wasn't so much the relentless reporting on a transfer that's not going to happen, but the near-insistence that it will.
Once again, the media seemed to be working for Liverpool in an effort to disrupt Isak and try to do a bit of inception to get him to believe he wants to move to Liverpool.
While the rumours aren't going to go away, we have been given a more realistic take on the situation from someone close to Liverpool.
Journalist provides realistic update on Liverpool and Alexander Isak
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Times journalist Paul Joyce has been speaking on the Redmen TV podcast about the move for Isak, and he actually uses terms like 'if' and confirms the fact that Newcastle are under no pressure to sell.
> “I think when we get onto Alexander Isak, the top teams in England would all covet him. The situation is complicated by, I spoke to one of my colleagues who covers Newcastle this morning and he said there’s no real pressure on Newcastle to sell for PSR reasons, which was the case last summer when the Anthony Gordon link came up.
>
> “If that was to change, Liverpool would put themselves in the conversation, but I think once Wirtz and Kerkez are in, Liverpool will look to trade and it’s about an opportunistic move and being able to react to situations.”
Wages will ultimately be Newcastle's undoing
--------------------------------------------
As they say, every player has their price, but Newcastle have set their price so high for Isak that a move will be practically impossible for any club to do.
Wages, on the other hand, are another thing altogether, and if Newcastle don't change their wage structure to match their ambitions, that's what could push our players away.
We don't think that will happen right away, and therefore, we expect Alexander Isak to stay and to sign a new deal before the season starts.
As for Liverpool, hopefully they, and the rest of the mainstream media, pick up what Paul Joyce is putting down.
