Mohamed Salah, who leads a six-player shortlist for the Professional Footballers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is leading the pack of six players shortlisted for the Professional Footballers' Association Men's Player of the Year award. There are no Aston Villa players although Morgan Rogers is nominated for the Young Player category.

The Egyptian ace played a pivotal role in Liverpool's Premier League triumph last season, netting 29 goals and providing 18 assists.

Earlier this year, he was crowned footballer of the year by the Football Writers' Association, making him a strong contender to win his peers' vote.

Joining him on the shortlist are his team-mate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal's Declan Rice, Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Mac Allister proved instrumental in Liverpool's midfield, featuring 35 times and contributing five goals and five assists.

Palmer, who bagged the PFA Men's Young Player of the Year award for 2023-24, may not have reached the same heights last season but still managed to score 15 goals and helped Chelsea clinch the Conference League.

Rice shone in Arsenal's midfield, achieving a career-best nine goals and adding 10 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Isak played a crucial role in Newcastle's Champions League qualification and Carabao Cup victory, scoring 23 goals for the Magpies.

Despite a largely underwhelming campaign for Manchester United, Fernandes stood out, supplying eight league goals and 10 assists for the Red Devils.

This year's awards ceremony is set to take place in Manchester on 19 August.
