There has been a twist in the future of former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, with a second club reportedly competing to sign him.
The Frenchman looked set to return to football for the first time in almost two years with AS Monaco. It was reported that he’s been offered a two-year deal with the French club, with discussions over a possible move ongoing.
However, FootMercato now reports the Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad are trying to hijack the deal. The report says that initial discussions have taken place with Pogba continuing to explore all opportunities.
A move to the Saudi side would see him reunite with international teammates N’Golo Kante and Karim Benzema. Former France boss Laurent Blanc is also the head coach of the club, having joined last summer.
A reunion with Kante would see the re-emergence of the midfield partnership that helped France to win the World Cup in 2018.
Whoever Pogba decides to join, it will be a return to football for the 32-year-old. He was handed a provisional four-year ban following a positive drugs test, but had that reduced to 18 months on appeal, meaning he is free to play football again.

He terminated his deal with Juventus back in November, meaning that he has been looking for a new club since. He has been linked with various clubs in Turkey, Brazil and the MLS, as well as a third spell back with United.
Over the last week, Pogba has been in the United States as he continues training. He shared a hint that he could be closer to a return to football, posting a video at Miami Hurricanes training ground with a message reading: “Here I come.”
He also shared a picture of a reunion with four former United teammates. Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero, Edison Cavani and Ander Herera all now play for Boca Juniors who took on Benfica in the Club World Cup.
