Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has questioned their transfer activity. The Blues recently agreed to sell one of their big name star. Nevin is not happy with that decision as he feels that the player could have played major role for the club.
Chelsea have started the summer window on strong note. They are very busy in trying to improve their squad. But, the club is also focused to trim their squad with many players linked with exit. The Blues are set to sign a new goalkeeper.
Chelsea tried to sign Mike Maignan but failed to land him. They can try once again later and hence other keepers are finding their future uncertain. One of them is Kepa who was on loan away from Stamford Bridge in 2024/25 season.
Kepa played really well for Bournemouth. He made 97 saves in Premier League with 71.3% accuracy. He is 30 years old and still has many years to offer at top level. But, Chelsea have no intention to keep him at the club beyond this summer.
The West London club have made Kepa available in the market. The Spaniard is said to join Arsenal this summer. Gunners will make Kepa their backup keeper for David Raya. The North London giants will need to pay only £5 million for him.
Pat Nevin not happy with Chelsea selling Kepa
Pat Nevin has not been impressed with the Blues selling Kepa. He told Spin Genie that Kepa is amongst the top keepers at Stamford Bridge. He asked the Blues to revisit their decision of parting ways with the 30 year old.
“I think the resolution to their goalkeeping probelm could already be at the club. Kepa is as good as any of the goalkeepers we have mentioned and he’s an option that I think is worth revisiting for Chelsea” – Pat Nevin to Spin Genie as quoted by Metro.
Nevin said that goalkeepers like defenders start to get better at 25 year old. He praised Kepa for getting better in recent seasons. Later, he added that Chelsea have young keepers due to which Kepa can play big role as experienced one.
However, Nevin is aware that Chelsea board may not have same views as him. It will be interesting to see if the Blues rethink about their decision of selling the 30 year old. But, as of now Kepa is said to join Arsenal as backup keeper.
