'Great quality': Will Osula has spoken about the difference between being at Sheffield United…

Last summer, Newcastle United made just two first-team acquisitions: Lloyd Kelly arrived on a free from Bournemouth, and young forward Will Osula came in from Sheffield United for £10 million plus add-ons.

Lloyd Kelly would last just six months on Tyneside before moving to Juventus on loan, before the deal became permanent.

Meanwhile, Will Osula spent a lot of time on the bench with very few minutes to his name by the end of the campaign, although he did manage two goals for the Magpies.

Osula was signed as a 'project player', so his lack of minutes wasn't a surprise. He seems to be following a similar trajectory to Lewis Hall, who rode the bench in his first season at Newcastle, making more regular appearances towards the end of the season and then bursting onto the scene in the next season.

We love Will Osula

Will Osula has thrown accidental shade over Sheffield United with his latest comments

While reports suggest that Eddie Howe doesn't feel Osula is ready to make that same leap as Hall did, his performances so far in the U21 European Championships would suggest otherwise, as the Toon striker has three goals and two assists in Denmark's three games so far.

While on international duty, the 21-year-old has spoken to Danish outlet Campo about life at Newcastle compared to Sheffield United.

“Yes, you can feel that 100% [The difference in quality]. In everyday life in training and during the matches. The fact that those you play with have great quality.

“It was also high quality at Sheffield United. They were also in the Premier League. But of course, there is a difference, also because Newcastle is a bigger club.”

Eddie Howe will have to seriously consider Will Osula following his Euros form

We're sure the shade thrown at Sheffield United there was unintentional. Perhaps something lost in translation, but given the difference in league positions, it's perhaps hard to deny.

If Will Osula continues his form for Denmark in the Euros, then Eddie Howe will have to take a serious look at him for next season.

We're already expecting Osula to be handed more game time, but as Newcastle are shopping for another forward, it does suggest Howe wants to keep Osula as the third choice.
