Chelsea Youth Goalkeeper Signs New Deal, Leaves on Loan

Chelsea young shot-stopper Teddy Sharman-Lowe has extended his deal with the club until 2028. He has also finalized a 2025–26 loan transfer to Bolton Wanderers.

The 22-year-old contributed to winning a League Two championship with Doncaster Rovers in his previous campaign. He is expected to be top class in League One as he progresses.

Sharman-Lowe’s journey from Burton Albion’s youth ranks to Chelsea’s Cobham has involved multiple development loans. This has included spells at Havant & Waterlooville, Bromley, and Doncaster. Signed in 2020, he was immediately loaned back to Burton, with the Blues taking a long-term view on his progress.

His development was finalized last season at Doncaster Rovers, where he played 51 times, achieving 15 clean sheets. He also guided them into promotion as League Two champions. The career-best season raised the Blues’ technical staff’s interest in what the goalkeeper can offer, leading to his contract extension.

Bolton were intent on signing him on loan for the season. Manager Steven Schumacher showered praise on the goalkeeper, stating:

“We are really pleased to bring Teddy to the club. He is a young goalkeeper with plenty of ability… His performances for Doncaster were outstanding and he possesses the physical presence and all–round goalkeeping attributes we were looking for.”

Sharman-Lowe, on duty with England at the Under-21 European Championship, was also delighted about the move:

“I’m very excited to be here. It’s another great challenge for me,” he said. “Coming to a club as big as Bolton – with its past in the Premier League as well and aspirations to be back there – I think I can really kick on…”

Sharman-Lowe’s Time at Chelsea

The goalkeeper has yet to play for Chelsea’s first team. He has played regularly for Premier League 2 and was brought to the bench thrice as an unused Blues’ first team substitute last term.

His transition to Bolton is expected to be seamless. He will look to enjoy regular game time in a competitive environment, which can prepare him for a future at Stamford Bridge.
