Ever since Nick Sirianni was hired as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the outspoken leader has seemed to have strong control over the locker room.
Year after year, Sirianni has been able to handle the pulse of the roster to the point of allowing them to succeed even when adversity hit hard. It all came together last season when Sirianni's leadership helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX.
At 48-20, Sirianni's .706 winning percentage is among the highest in NFL history for a coach in his first four seasons.
His control of the locker room's pulse was abundantly clear during offseason workouts. In a clip of the Eagles' Unscripted documentary, Sirianni clarified the team's mindset for this season.
"First I want to say, the celebration is over. OK? The celebration is over, preparation is here. Celebration is over, preparation is here," Sirianni said. "As we continued through here last year, as we came into the 2024 season there was a lot that we talked about of handling adversity. Now, it's a little different. You have to handle success, Right? It's a different animal. Right?
"You've got to handle success. Everyone right now, for the guys here, is telling you how good you are. Treat praise like perfume. Sniff it, don't drink it. It's poison."
While Philadelphia is one of the youngest teams in the league, its roster is very veteran-laden. Its young players all played key roles in its Super Bowl run last season.
Sirianni's ability to get his young team on the same page this early in the offseason shows that he continues to know the right ways to prepare his team for the season.
And it shows why his record shows there's more to winning football games than just calling plays.
