Villa News Speaking to Bryan King

Manchester United are keen to offload Aston Villa target Alejandro Garnacho this summer.

Early in his tenure at United, Ruben Amorim criticised Garnacho’s attitude and left him out of the squad, before limiting his game time as the season wore on.

Things came to a head when Garnacho publicly questioned his manager for leaving him on the bench for so long as the Red Devils lost to Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League final.

United strongly backed their Portuguese leader at the end of the season, increasing the probability that the 20-year-old would be offloaded this summer, opening the door for Aston Villa to capitalise.

United want £70million for Garnacho, could sell for £55m

Unai Emery has already shown that he is willing to take a risk on out-of-favour players’ careers, with Garnacho’s teammate Marcus Rashford the prime example.

Villa have been widely linked with a move for Garnacho, who United have placed a £70m pricetag on.

The Argentina international’s profile perfectly fits Emery’s desire to bring in more modern, goal-scoring attackers who can play as inside forwards as the Villa boss veers away from traditional wide players.

And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that £55m will be enough to secure Garnacho’s signature this summer.

“United will accept less than £70m,” King said.

“They will accept a good offer, whether or not that is the figure they want, especially if Amorim has decided that Garnacho is not going to be part of the squad.

“Garnacho has made his feelings clear, and I don’t think Amorim will want to hear that again. Therefore, if there’s a good offer, he will be allowed to leave the football club.

“I think £55m could be accepted, perhaps that might go up to £60m with add-ons. However, I think a deal could be done at around that price; nobody is going to offer £70m. He might be an exciting player, but he isn’t worth that much.”

Villa can’t afford to make a mistake on Garnacho

Villa’s risk in signing Rashford and Marco Asensio last season arguably paid off, but both of those were six-month loan deals with little jeopardy if they went wrong.

The situation with Garnacho is a completely different kettle of fish.

Villa’s spending power has been diminished with the failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and they can ill afford to spend handsomely on a player with an imperfect disciplinary record.

Therefore, should Villa decide to dedicate a generous chunk of their budget on one player, they should go for a much more sure-fire signing that will not risk the Midlands club suffering a huge setback.
