Chelsea swoop for 37-year-old Hull City figure

Hull City professional development phase coach Billy Clarke has been poached for a scouting role at Chelsea, it has been confirmed.

Hull City are prioritising the progression of their first-team as they look to come good on Acun Ilicali’s ambitions. Some contentious decision making from the owner have drawn criticism from HCAFC fans, but the goal remains to eventually return to the Premier League.

Sergej Jakirovic is the latest boss tasked with such a feat, but many will argue the wider club management requires improvements to reach the heights Ilicali is targeting.

The Tigers’ academy has produced some bright talents over the years and the steady production of players will hopefully continue, though one man who will not be playing a part going forward is professional development phase coach Billy Clarke.

As confirmed on the club’s official website, Clarke has left Hull City to take up a scouting role with Premier League giants Chelsea.

He has played influential roles in the youth ranks alongside the likes of John Anderson, Chad Gribble and Conor Sellars, but now heads to Stamford Bridge for a new scouting position.

HCAFC have wished the 37-year-old all the best as he embarks on his first post-playing career role away from the club.
