As Manchester United sharpen their transfer focus this summer, a name once linked with the club has resurfaced under dramatically different circumstances.
While Ruben Amorim continues to shape his squad at Old Trafford with fresh signings and clear-outs, the past keeps finding its way into the spotlight.
With players like Matheus Cunha arriving, Bryan Mbeumo targeted, and goalkeepers like Emiliano Martinez being monitored, United’s future looks busy — and hopefully far from the chaos surrounding former transfer targets.

One of those forgotten names, Quincy Promes, has made global headlines this week — but not for anything that happened on the pitch.
The Dutch winger, now 32, was extradited from Dubai to the Netherlands on Friday, where he will begin serving a 7.5-year prison sentence after being convicted of stabbing his cousin and involvement in a major cocaine trafficking operation, as per De Telegraaf.
He was flown back aboard a chartered Challenger 604 private jet, accompanied by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, due to security and privacy concerns.
Dutch officials reportedly ruled out placing him in prisons in Vught or Zaanstad, where some of his co-defendants are already detained.

Promes’ fall from grace is even more striking considering the career he once could have had.
Back in 2015, the former Ajax and Spartak Moscow player revealed that Manchester United were tracking him during his early days in Russia.
At the time, he had just joined Spartak Moscow from FC Twente for £9.5 million and caught the attention of top European sides, including Louis van Gaal’s United.
Speaking on the interest, Promes said: “I can confirm that, but a concrete proposal did not exist.
“Frankly, I felt at that moment not ready to make the transfer to Manchester.
“Who could guarantee me that I would not be constantly overlooked at United.”
While he ultimately decided he wasn’t ready for Old Trafford, the path Quincy Promes did take has led him to a very different destination.
As Manchester United plan a fresh chapter, the cautionary tale of Quincy Promes serves as a sobering reminder of where unfulfilled potential can lead.
