Manchester United are planning significant changes in their goalkeeping department this summer, as uncertainty continues to surround future of Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian has faced consistent scrutiny since his move from Inter Milan in 2023, with questions over his composure and reliability in key moments.

Altay Bayindir, meanwhile, is expected to leave after failing to make a single Premier League appearance last season.

With Ruben Amorim demanding a commanding presence between the posts, the Red Devils may soon be in need of a new No.1.

A serious candidate has now emerged.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s has reported via his own official website that Monaco have carried out a survey for Onana, raising the prospect of a potential departure for the 29-year-old.

In response, United have identified Marco Carnesecchi as their preferred replacement.

Early contact already made with the Atalanta goalkeeper’s agent.

Carnesecchi, who was already linked to United earlier this month, is highly rated by the recruitment team thanks to his shot-stopping ability and composure under pressure.

He kept 13 clean sheets in 34 Serie A appearances last season.

The Italian also signed a contract extension until 2028, meaning Atalanta will demand a significant fee.

While no direct approach has yet been made to the Italian club, United’s previous dealings with Atalanta – including the £72m signing of Rasmus Hojlund, could aid negotiations.

The 24-year-old’s name is now firmly on the radar at Old Trafford, should Monaco’s interest in Onana develop into something more concrete.

Fans will be hoping that the United hierarchy can finally put their goalkeeping struggles to an end.

The departure of David de Gea was one that stung parts of the fanbase, with many struggling to put full faith in Onana.

Now, the Red Devils are already looking to replace Onana.

Hopefully this time, the club don’t make a repeat in signing another keeper who struggles between the sticks.
