Arsenal transfer to be announced in July–Tax and accounting reasons cause delay

Martin Zubimendi’s move to Arsenal is not likely to be completed until July, despite him being in London to sort out the transfer.

That’s [according to COPE](https://www.cope.es/emisoras/pais-vasco/deportes-guipuzcoa/noticias/zubimendi-londres-cerrar-fichaje-arsenal-20250620_3173514.html), who confirm reports that Zubimendi is currently in London to formalise his move from Real Sociedad to Arsenal. They say he travelled this week to meet Arsenal’s directors and go over the final steps of the deal.

Arsenal will pay just over €65m for the 26-year-old midfielder in three instalments, taking that route rather than paying his €60m release clause.

According to Deportes COPE Gipuzkoa, however, the deal will not be made official until early July. It is likely to be just before Sociedad’s pre-season schedule starts on July 7th.

That delay has been done due to accounting and tax reasons, with Real Sociedad wanting to close the 2024/25 financial year without the sale to Arsenal being included. They want it on next year’s books instead.

Thus, the announcement is expected in the first week of July. Until then, the player and his entourage are maintaining a policy of maximum discretion, avoiding public statements or gestures.

This is something we’ve seen previously, with a report at the end of May stating exactly the same regarding when the deal will be announced. We covered that at the time and COPE now echo that stance.
