Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish after he was left out of Pep Guardiola’s Club World Cup squad.
The summer transfer window is well underway, but fans are getting restless after three transfer windows without a major first-team addition.
It is nearly 700 days since Newcastle United signed Lewis Hall on loan before the 2023/24 season, which was the last time Eddie Howe welcomed a new player to improve his starting XI. However, the feeling internally is that the Magpies will spend, and spend well this summer.
Reports suggested that Jack Grealish is on Newcastle’s radar, with the 29-year-old frozen out by Pep Guardiola in the latter stages of the Premier League season. Grealish joining Newcastle means that there will be too many cooks on the left side of attack, and someone could be moved on.
Anthony Gordon is of interest to Arsenal and Liverpool, with the latter failing in an approach last summer while Newcastle were looking to balance the books and avoid a PSR point deduction. With Grealish and Gordon’s futures in question, journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an interesting update on both of their situations.

Newcastle United not looking to sell Anthony Gordon or sign Jack Grealish
It appears that Newcastle are well aware of the problems it could cause and appear to have dropped their interest in Grealish.
Newcastle wanted Grealish on loan due to his high wage demands, with the England international the highest-paid Englishman in the Premier League on an eye-watering £300,000-a-week.
The Magpies’ lack of interest was confirmed by Jacobs on an episode of the Inside Gooners podcast.

“Newcastle are just shutting up shop at the moment and saying we’ve got Champions League football. None of these assets are for sale, and our PSR position is fine,” he said.
“So I think Gordon would be difficult to pull off and maybe a bit counterproductive for Newcastle, simply because you’ve got Anthony Gordon plus Harvey Barnes both in excellent form.
“Now we hear some reports that might give Arsenal fans hope that Jack Grealish could be heading to Newcastle, and maybe those putting two and two together and making four, or hoping that it’s four, will be saying that means that Gordon’s going, because it is true.
“If Newcastle moved for a player like Grealish, they’ll have to lose one of those players on the left-hand side. But the bad news, I’m told, is two and two makes five and that Grealish and Newcastle is not a thing, and their aim is to keep hold of both Gordon and, of course, Harvey Barnes.”
How much Newcastle United are demanding for Anthony Gordon
Having lost his place in the starting XI after being sent off in an FA Cup game and suffering an injury on international duty, Gordon may be disappointed with how he performed for Newcastle during the 2024/25 campaign.
The 24-year-old was brilliant the season before, solidifying his place in the starting XI while scoring and assisting for fun.
Anthony Gordon’s Premier League Statistics 2023/24 2024/25
Appearances 35 34
Minutes 2,906 2,446
Goals 11 6
Assists 15 6
Gordon signed a new deal at Newcastle in late 2024, but that has not stopped Liverpool from retaining their interest in him. Newcastle are eager to keep Gordon on Tyneside for the foreseeable future with the hope that he regains his form from the 2023/24 season.
However, if they were to sell, Newcastle would demand £100m from Liverpool for Gordon, giving them a heavy profit on the £45m they signed him from Everton for. That price tag also gives Liverpool a dilemma as to which Newcastle player they should go for as they are also interested in Alexander Isak.
They surely cannot afford both players, so Arne Slot will be forced into a decision this summer.
