The Dallas Mavericks have some decisions to make before next season because they will likely be without Kyrie Irving, at least for a considerable amount of time.
They have a lot riding on 2025-26 and want to make an impact on the West.
Therefore, it isn’t surprising to hear they plan to sign one of the most accomplished point guards in league history.
According to Eric Pincus, via Basketball Forever, the Mavericks will look to sign Chris Paul as a replacement guard until Irving is healthy.

Paul just finished his 19th season in the league, playing for the San Antonio Spurs and averaging 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists.
He may be 40 years old, but he still played in 82 games, something he hasn’t done in ten years.
He may not be playing for as many minutes as he did during his peak, but Paul is still a very smart, very capable, and very important player.
The Mavericks would be wise to sign him because he won’t cost them much, and he would bring so much to the team.
He could be particularly helpful for Cooper Flagg, who should be joining the team next week.
Flagg could spend his rookie season alongside one of the most respected stars in NBA history, which would surely help him.
The Mavericks are going to miss Irving and all that he does for the team.
2025-26 will be much harder without him, but they could greatly improve their chances by signing someone like Paul to help pick up the slack and fill the massive hole Irving leaves behind.
