Barcelona manager Hansi Flick offered some words of advice for Lamine Yamal, who is set for his third full season as Barcelona’s teenage superstar.
Yamal finished a spectacular campaign that made him a true _Ballon d’Or_ contender, and the expectations will be massive as the soon-to-be 18-year-old looks to improve on what already was one of the best seasons by any player in the world in 2024-25.
But his coach doesn’t want him to get complacent. Speaking in an interview this week, Flick reiterated the importance of continued growth from a physical and mental standpoint for Yamal, and Hansi believes a player for Lamine’s talent needs to work as hard as possible to fully realize his potential.
> “I often say it: he’s a genius. And he’s 17, we have to help him. So far, everything’s fine. If he wants to play at the highest level for the next 15 years, he needs to train very well and prepare himself mentally. He’s smart. It’s not all about enjoyment; you also have to work.

> “And players with his talent need to do that. He has good examples in the team, like Raphinha, who also has a lot of trust in him.”

It’s great to see Flick doing his part to keep Yamal’s feet on the ground, and everything we’ve seen so far shows that Lamine has the right mentality to not let the success get to his head and remain focused on constant improvement.
It is starting to become almost scary to imagine just how good Lamine Yamal will be.
