Fabrizio Romano has shared what he has heard about Tottenham and Manchester United’s pursuits of Bryan Mbeumo, with the Italian transfer expert making an interesting revelation about the Lilywhites’ transfer plans.
Over the last few days, various sources have claimed that Tottenham are posing a significant challenge to Man United for Mbeumo after Thomas Frank took over as the North London club’s head coach.
However, even though Spurs are willing to offer more lucrative terms to Mbeumo than Man United, the Brentford star is thought to prefer a move to Old Trafford over a reunion with Frank.
A couple of days ago, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti suggested that Tottenham may be on the verge of calling off their Mbeumo pursuit after finding out that the player wants to join Rubem Amorim’s side.

Tottenham are eyeing other attackers alongside Bryan Mbeumo
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Spurs have explored a move for the 25-year-old, who is rated very highly by Frank.
However, he made it clear that the Lilywhites are not putting all their eggs in the Mbeumo basket, revealing that other attacking targets have also been discussed by the North London club’s hierarchy.
When asked about Tottenham’s interest in the Cameroon international, Romano told GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast: “For sure, there is appreciation from Thomas Frank. And so it’s quite obvious to discuss a target like Mbeumo for Tottenham because he’s one of the names they discussed internally as soon as he [Frank] signed his contract as new Tottenham manager.”
MORE SPURS STORIES
On Manchester United and Bryan Mbeumo, he added: “So it’s obvious in football to see these kind of situations, but my understanding is that Manchester United remain, at the moment, in control of the situation, in conversation with Brentford, the club-to-club talking almost on a daily basis, trying to find a solution.
“We know with these clubs like Brentford, Brighton is always difficult to negotiate for their top players, so it’s not easy to reach an agreement, but United are on that.
“They are talking to the club, always in contact with player agents, and with an agreement with Bryan Mbeumo, because the player wants to go to United. And so at the moment, United remain frontrunners on this story. Let’s see if they can be able to reach an agreement on the fee with Brentford.”
Tottenham are making advances towards Premier League winger
Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that several outlets have reported over recent days that Tottenham have zeroed in on Antoine Semenyo as their top alternative to Mbeumo.
It has been suggested that Spurs are growing in confidence about securing a deal for Semenyo, who is thought to be valued at £60m by the Cherries.
It remains to be seen if Tottenham Hotspur now push ahead with a move for the Ghana international, now that their pursuit of the Brentford man appears to have stalled.
