Former Kings GM Vlade Divac undergoes hip surgery after Montenegro motorcycle fall

Former Sacramento Kings center and general manager Vlade Divac underwent emergency hip surgery following a motorcycle accident in Montenegro, media reports said.

Divac, 57, broke his hip after falling off the vehicle and received an artificial hip implant, according to the Associated Press. The incident occurred in the coastal town of Risan, where hospital officials said Divac is in stable condition and under close medical supervision.

“During the day, a surgical procedure was performed,” said Ljubica Mitrovic, a spokeswoman of the hospital in the town of Risan, according to the Associated Press. “He is in a stable general and physical condition and is under a careful supervision of the medical staff.”

Divac, who remains close to the Sacramento Kings after serving as general manager from 2015 to 2020, spent 16 years in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kings and Charlotte Hornets. Divac was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019 and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2010.

As a member of the Yugoslavian National Team, he earned two Olympic Silver medals in 1988 and 1996, two European Championships gold medals in 1989 and 1991 and two FIBA World Championships gold medals in 1990 and 2002. The Kings retired Divac’s No. 21 in 2009.

The 7-foot-1 center’s lone All-Star season came with Sacramento in 2000-01 when he averaged 12.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists. The Kings finished with the third-best record in the Western Conference at 55-27.

In 2021, Divac sold his renovated home in Sacramento’s Poverty Ridge neighborhood for $1.5 million.
