Chelsea could be about to be handed a major transfer boost thanks to Liverpool as the summer window rolls on.
The Blues are currently in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup, claiming a 2-0 victory over Major League Soccer outfit LAFC in their first group stage fixture.
Enzo Maresca and Co. will be focused on their remaining group games and the possibility of knockout fixtures in the future, but the Stamford Bridge hierarchy will also be mindful of the need to complete some transfer business in the months ahead.
Chelsea have until September 1 when the summer transfer window will close. The Blues have already signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a £30 million move, which was agreed in time for the striker to link up with the squad in the US for the Club World Cup.
Recent reports may also suggest that Chelsea could be handed a fresh transfer boost thanks to a deal Liverpool may look to complete.
It has been widely reported that Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is a target for the Anfield outfit. Guehi left Chelsea in the summer of 2021 for around £18m, and has even been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge on occasions in recent years.
The Mirror reported in January that Chelsea included a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that saw Guehi move to Palace. As a result, if Liverpool were to sign Guehi it would see the Blues be entitled to a fifth of the transfer fee paid to the Eagles.
Guehi is about to enter the final year of his contract at Palace, with suggestions that a cut-price fee could be on the cards in order for the Eagles to avoid losing the player on a free transfer next year. Reports previously speculated that Palace were seeking a fee worth around £65m last year.
If Guehi was to sign for Liverpool this summer, though, it would be a major boost to Chelsea's transfer business this summer. If last summer's mooted price tag is paid, it could see the Blues bank as much as £13m.
Chelsea are still looking to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens, having had a £42m offer rejected earlier this month. The Bundesliga outfit are thought to be seeking a fee closer to £50m.
AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was also a target for Chelsea this summer, but a deal could not be agreed. football.london understands that the Blues offered £13m for the France international, although the Serie A giants were looking for a fee of more than £20m.
If Liverpool do go on to sign Guehi this summer, regardless of the fee, it would certainly go a long way to helping Chelsea fund their own transfer business.
