Liverpool’s sudden interest in Marc Guehi has been met with disappointment from Newcastle United fans.
They have been anticipating a fresh pursuit of the 24-year-old, with Newcastle interested in Guehi after missing out on him last summer.
He was Eddie Howe’s top target in 2024 and the hope was that Newcastle United would finally get their man in 2025.
However, that may not be the case. Guehi’s preference is to join Liverpool, as he enters the final 12 months of his Crystal Palace contract.

Newcastle United are looking for a Marc Guehi alternative
That contract situation handed Newcastle an opportunity to land Guehi on a cheaper deal than he would have cost, but it appears to be an opportunity that they are not interested in.
According to the i Paper, Newcastle United have been looking at players other than Guehi as they continue their search for a right-sided centre-back.
It is unclear who the Magpies are targeting instead. Newcastle have eyed Ousmane Diomande, but he is in talks to join Crystal Palace, likely as a Guehi replacement.
However, the update from the i Paper would perhaps explain why talk of the England international moving to Tyneside has gone quiet. It was recently reported that Newcastle had doubts over Guehi, but the reason why is unknown.

How much Marc Guehi could cost this summer
One possible reason why the Magpies have been looking away from Guehi is his potential price tag.
It has been reported that Newcastle were hoping to pay £40million for Guehi, which would be a lot less than they were prepared to pay in 2024. Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle went as high as £705million for the defender last year.
However, the Eagles are looking to receive more than £40million for their captain. That is according to the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, who has spoken about Liverpool’s interest in Guehi on his YouTube channel.
“The noises coming from Palace are maybe towards £50million [for Guehi],” he said.
“Liverpool are a bit lower than that. Whether they meet in the middle or not, we’re not sure. Maybe £45million gets it done.”
